Pediatric Rehabilitation is a subspecialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation whose main objectives are the habilitation and rehabilitation of children and adolescents with motor disabilities or multiple disabilities.
Disability in children is currently defined as the chronic reduction in the ability to participate in normal activities of children of the same age. Pediatric rehabilitation is carried out by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a physiatrist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, among other professionals, with a child- and family-centered approach.
The physiatrist is responsible for the clinical and functional diagnosis, and for the elaboration of an individualized rehabilitation plan, which takes into account the specific characteristics of the child linked to its development and the specificities inherent to its clinical situation.
