About the center

  Working hours: Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00 St. Petersburg Institute of Early Intervention a non-profit organization that develops, tests, adapts, develops and disseminates advanced modern methods of providing early assistance to children and their families in Russia and the CIS countries. Early intervention programs were developed for children of the first three years of life. Their goal is to identify problems or disorders in a child’s development as early as possible and to provide appropriate assistance to the child and his family. Early intervention programs are designed for all families with childrenhaving risk of developmental delay or impairment. Sometimes it may be obvious from the moment a child is born that the family will need specialist support in his or her development. This often applies to children who were diagnosed immediately after birth (for example, with Down syndrome), children who were born prematurely, with low birth weight, or children who were operated on immediately after birth. Every year, the Institute is contacted by more than 700 families with small children. The programs are implemented in various forms: about 120 families come to face-to-face training sessions with specialists each year. Some families participate in the programs remotely, while others are supported by the Institute's specialists. Individual early assistance programs are aimed at developing all basic skills, as well as any skills that a child acquires during the first three years of life. Namely:
  • Motor skills (reach and grab toys, turn, crawl, walk)
  • Cognitive skills (think, remember, solve problems);
  • Communication skills (listen to speech addressed to him, understand, talk);
  • Social-emotional skills (play, interact with other people, show feelings);
  • Self care skills (eating, dressing, washing).
To help every child and his family, the Institute has a professional interdisciplinary team of specialists:
  • Psychologists
  • teachers
  • speech therapists
  • physical therapists
  • occupational therapists
  • development pediatrician
